A Figurative Body

Memories in Naples

“I feel no nostalgia for our childhood: it was full of violence. Every sort

of thing happened, at home and outside, every day, but I don't recall

having ever thought that the life we had there was particularly bad. Life

was like that, that's all, we grew up with the duty to make it difficult for

others before they made it difficult for us.”

“Children don’t know the meaning of yesterday,of the day before yesterday, or even of tomor-row, everything is this, now: the street is this,

the doorway is this, the stairs are this, this is Mamma, this is Papa, this is the day, this the

night.”

Broken women

As a woman, I can always feel the gender pressure from the current social culture, and the internal anxiety for being female, which leads to the impulse to dispel this pressure and anxiety. This is the original intention of my creation.

The works are jointly presented by five paintings, presenting women's specific gender feelings in multiple dimensions, expressing my personal reflection on the gender situation of women, and also questioning whether the current "women's standards" can explain the concrete existence of women as individuals.

Family Issue

The installation part of the work, presented in the form of a film art scene model, consists of five scenes, four of which are prison cells, interrogation rooms, surveillance rooms and the scene of robbery and theft, corresponding to the bedroom, study, parents' room and living room of the original family, to create a living atmosphere or situation of the children in the original family. The fifth scene is a restored look of harmony owned by a normal family. I integrate the real crime scene through the film art setting, using handmade materials to make a proportional rotation model, to show the easy to ignore the family injury in the state of constant cycle. In the video works, I embed the "complete" scene into this harmonious family life that does not belong to the installation space by editing.

Book Cover

The manual part is a paper picture album that the audiences can read, showing the situation and feelings of individual children. Installations, paintings and images all revolve around the situation of children in native families, and I believe that putting problems and feelings out and discussing them is the best way to repair them.
